![]() It will be lineing up with a fixed point of the timing tab. The visable single mark on the dampener pulley will appear to be standing still. Start it up at idle and pull the the timing light trigger. When the vacuum advance is disconnected and plugged off or electrical advance at idle has been disconnected you're ready to time the car. The dampener pulley must be clean so the single hash mark across the OD. Generally this tab has timing marks on them that read: 0-2-4-6-8-10-12. For this light to be useful there must be a fixed timing tab on the front of the engine. Some of these lights have push buttons to depress for the number of cylinders you're working on in addition to the spark advance window.Ī traditional three wire inductive light is hooked up the same way on the positive battery terminal, ground and #1 spark plug wire. The difference with an inductive light with advance is as follows: If the particular motor does not have a timing tab off the front of the engine but just a single pointer the back side of the light reads spark advance. ![]() The third wire has a large inductive U shaped alligator clamp that clips over #1 cylinder spark plug wire. One is connected to the positive battery terminal and another to a clean ground. There are three leads coming out of the handle of the light. They only work if the vehicle has a distributor. Both are traditional inductive timing lights.
